Skills Gaps: The Biggest Barrier
The World Economic Forum's 2025 Future of Jobs Report identifies that skills gaps are the biggest barrier to business transformation around the world, with most of the global workforce requiring reskilling within five years.
According to the data presented, of 100 workers globally, 59 will need training by 2030. Of those, 29 require upskilling in current roles, 19 will transition internally, and 11 won't receive necessary upskilling — potentially representing over 120 million people at risk of falling behind.
Advanced Manufacturing Focus
As industries adopt smart manufacturing technologies including AI, IoT, and additive manufacturing, demand grows for skilled workers. The report emphasises that roles continue evolving, creating opportunities in data analysis, programming, and advanced manufacturing technology sectors.
Future Workforce Requirements
The advanced manufacturing sector will require workers with both technical expertise and sustainability knowledge. The convergence of digital and physical systems demands competencies in design, prototyping, and process optimisation.
Additionally, resilient local production models will increase, necessitating more advanced manufacturing professionals prepared for continuous learning and adaptability.
Businesses and governments must collaborate to strengthen upskilling programs and future-proof workforces for long-term success.
