Now is the time for manufacturers to start thinking about R&D projects that could benefit from the support of a summer intern — particularly with R&D Experience Grant applications expected to open in a few months - date to be confirmed.

Many manufacturers are sitting on improvement opportunities that are difficult to prioritise internally due to day-to-day operational pressures. A summer intern can provide dedicated resource to help advance projects focused on areas such as:

• Process improvement and productivity • Digital technology adoption • Automation and data analysis • Sustainability initiatives • Materials and production innovation • Workflow optimisation and continuous improvement

One of the projects AMA is currently leading is increasing the number of manufacturers engaging with university summer interns. AMA will be exhibiting at the University of Auckland Career & Intern Expo in July.

We see a significant opportunity for greater collaboration between manufacturers, students, and the wider innovation ecosystem. If you have an idea for a project, even at an early stage, now is the ideal time to begin shaping it ahead of funding applications opening. Please share your internship opportunities with us and we will promote directly to students via the AMA website.

Happy to meet with you to discuss: • Potential project ideas • Funding opportunities • How AMA can support connections with students • The broader initiatives we have underway to support manufacturing workforce and innovation outcomes
